Mondadori: profit rises to 6 million, revenues -4%

The net financial position shows a significant improvement due to the generation of cash flow in the 12 months of over 90 million euro – A further improvement is expected for the current year.

Mondadori closes 2015 with revenues of 1.123 million euros (-4% compared to the previous year), a gross operating margin of 81,6 million (+14%), a positive net profit from continuing operations of 15,1 million , tripled compared to 5,3 million euros in 2014 and a net profit of 6,4 million compared to 0,6 million in 2014.

The net financial position shows a significant improvement due to the generation of cash flow in the 12 months of over 90 million euros: -199,4 million compared to -291,8 million in 2014. The publishing group estimates for the current year, on a like-for-like basis, to record stable revenues, a high-single digit growth in EBITDA and a further improvement in net financial position compared to 31 December 2015.

The Segrate publishing group – pending the Antitrust verdict on the acquisition of Rcs Libri “which from 2016 will allow Mondadori to consolidate its presence in Italy in the trade book market and in school publishing, as well as in the illustrated business international level” – during 2015 it saw its leadership in the trade segment confirmed, with a share of 24% (compared to 25,3% in 2014).

As far as the school books market is concerned, Mondadori Education is confirmed as the third player in the sector with an additional share of 12,5%. During the year, the revenues of the Books area amounted to 320,8 million euros, down by 5,7% compared to the 340,1 million euros of the previous year, with a positive performance of the Educational area and a decline recorded by the trade segment.

Also in the Italian magazine segment, the group confirmed its leadership in 2015 with a market share of 31,2%. Revenues fell by 2,1% to 296,3 million euros. French magazines in turn saw revenues of €334,6 million, down 1,9% on 2014.

The parent company Arnoldo Mondadori spa closed the year with a loss of 32 million euros, mainly due to the transfer of the business unit relating to the publishing and distribution activities of the Books area, which took place from the beginning of January 2015 .
