Modena, call for young talents, creativity enters bookshops and artshops

Art, design and marketing they meet for a project that actively encourages and supports the intuitions of the new generations. The Youth Art Office of the Municipality of Modena launches the sixth edition of DAB6 – Design for Artshop and Bookshop, competition announcement dedicated to creatives aged between 18 and 35 who choose to try their hand at the creation of products intended for museum merchandising. A program promoted by the GAI - Association for the Circuit of Young Italian Artists, with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism - Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Suburbs and Directorate General for Museums.

The invitation is to imagine and design prototypes of objects that exemplify Italian flair and creativity, drawing inspiration from what the art and culture of the Belpaese have been able to express over the centuries: ranging freely from furnishing accessories to stationery materials, from graphic products to jewelry and more. There are two design lines to follow: DAB-contemporaneo leaves greater freedom of inventiveness, asking for the themes and languages of contemporary creativity to be interpreted without constraints; DAB-cultural heritage instead focuses specifically on the models represented by the great experiences of Italian culture, asking to be inspired by the architectural wonders, the archaeological treasures, the art collections that dot the national territory.

For each of the winners, one for each project line, there is a cash prize of 2.000 euros, assigned by a commission of industry experts called to evaluate not only the originality and artistry of the various projects, but also the economic sustainability and entrepreneurial value of the various initiatives. Precisely feasibility is the character that DAB6 intends to reward: in fact, the possibility is envisaged of allocating a total of 7.000 euros in the form of a contribution to the effective creation of prototypes (even more than one, therefore) which should prove worthy, regardless of whether whether or not they have been awarded the main mention. Not a simple reward for ideas, therefore: but a real aid to their realization.

It is possible to participate by submitting projects or photographs of the prototypes, but also with objects previously made but not marketed, by sending the materials no later than November 23, 2015. The projects deemed most interesting will be the subject of a series of exhibitions in important Italian public institutions : starting – in the second half of December 2015 – from the Spazio Corner D of the MAXXI in Rome.
