Fashion, jewelery and yachting: a third of Italy's GDP

A total of 341 businesses with a turnover of 200 billion euros are involved in the basis of the Italian Style – Unionfiliere, the Unioncamere association dedicated to the Made in Italy supply chain, has carried out a study relating to these three sectors, to which will soon add sustainable construction, from production to marketing.

Fashion, jewelery and yachting: a third of Italy's GDP

Even in times of crisis, Made in Italy continues to give satisfaction. This time we are dealing with three particular sectors: fashion, boating and goldsmithing which for Unionfiliere, the Association of Chambers of Commerce for the enhancement of Made in Italy supply chains, are the basis of Italian Style. Put together they include 341 thousand companies (5,4% of the national total), the8,2% of employees who operate outside the agricultural sector (nearly one and a half million people) and register a turnover of almost 200 billion euros. A value equal to the GDP of Abruzzo, Sardinia, Umbria, Calabria, Basilicata, Molise and Valle D'Aosta put together.

The study, promoted by Uninfiliere, was carried out by the Tagliacarne Institute which drew the contours of these three universes which are so important for the Italian reality. Soon, however, a fourth will soon be added: construction specialized in sustainable productions.

Some interesting aspects also emerged from the study at the local level, such as, for example, the fact that in some districts, especially in the fashion and nautical sectors, the articulation of the spinneret goes far beyond the creation of a single product, involving many related activities and also mechanical enterprises (for example the case of the textile district of Prato, where the enterprises operate in all stages of the manufacturing process, from spinning to the packaging of garments), and extends its articulation to related services (as in Genoa, where the nautical district includes both actual shipyards and services for the maritime transport of people and goods).

“With the opening of the districts to new supply chain logics, the chamber system decided last year to adapt its structures, giving rise to Unionfiliere, born from the merger of Assicore Itf, structures each specialized in the enhancement of the goldsmith's , the other in that of the fashion system”, underlined the president of Unioncamere, Ferruccio Dardanelle. "Unionfiliere it has its own in its name objectives: unite to qualify, enhance, promote the supply chains that
have made made in Italy famous in the world. The agreement signed today with the Federation of Districts was born from this spirit of sharing. These two structures, starting today, will start a direct path to the merger. Our goal, in fact, is to create a privileged place for the development of initiatives aimed at promoting the competitiveness of the supply chains and districts, through a constant comparison between the chamber system and the associative system".
