Sustainable mobility, Banca Ifis creates ebooks by listening to the voice of citizens

La research on the Ecosystem of the Bicycle traced the groove. Now Banca Ifis relaunches with an investigation into the sustainable mobility, but starting from the perception and needs of citizens.

The new relationship, which has become an ebook, was in fact carried out on a significant sample of inhabitants of three Italian cities selected by size, development and geography: Milan, Rome and Naples. Four levers of development for the inhabitants of the three metropolitan cities:

  • enhance public transport from a green perspective
  • investing in integrated mobility: train, bicycle, car, underground, on foot
  • promote discounts and preferential rates to encourage the use of public transport
  • increase road safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

These are the actions to increase the degree of perceived well-being and improve mobility in the cities of residence, including the hinterland.

Even today, according to the research, as many as 39% of trips in the city take place in car or scooter heat engine: in Naples and the hinterland it reaches 45%. THE public transport they are the second most used form of transport, equal to about 23% of trips (29% in Milan). In optics green something is also moving on the soft mobility front: the Banca Ifis study photographs the advance in the use of bike, thanks also to the 2020 mobility bonus. 18% of citizens ride two wheels and 50% have increased their use compared to two years ago: 37% for physical activity, 27% for reasons of social distancing, 26% to reduce the environmental impact, 22% thanks to the development of cycle paths. For 91% of users, the bike has reduced the use of another vehicle, in 54% of cases it is the car.

“Supporting businesses, especially SMEs that invest in the excellence of Italian know-how, has been Banca Ifis's mission since its inception. We interpret this role with particular attention to the social and cultural development of the territories in which we operate, convinced that sustainability represents a lever for creating value for people and the environment – he explains Ernesto Furstenberg Fassio Deputy Chairman of Banca Ifis -. With this spirit we have conceived the research on urban mobility in Italy with the aim of providing, through a survey of three laboratory cities such as Milan, Rome and Naples, a picture of the present and identifying new solutions that put citizens at the centre, starting from the role of the bicycle in our cities”.
