The first edition ofAuto & Mobility Barometer Ipsos-Europ Assistance noted that Italians, despite still preferring the car, are beginning to use more and more "green" vehicles.
THEItaly is still the first European country where more people own a car (97%) ma increases the use of bicycle (52%) and scooter (26%). Furthermore, since after the pandemic, the preference of Italians for move on foot (96% against the European average of 94%).

The investigation in detail

The report shows people's desire to reduce the frequency of travel. One is noted decrease in car sharing and other shared mobility solutions while walking or cycling is preferred. In Italy it is the 67% of respondents own at least one bicycle and 78% use it regularly. At European level, two out of three families own two wheels, of which 20% say they use thee-bike, a medium already widespread in Belgium and Germany and which will continue to grow a lot especially in Italy and Portugal.
The others grow sustainable means of micromobility: Italy is the fourth country, after Spain, Portugal and France, with the highest number of new users (35%) and where 17% declare they own a scooter.
I mobility changes they arise from concerns related to the impact on the environment and those of an economic nature, such as inflation and rising fuel costs. Attention to sustainability is also demonstrated by the always greater propensity to buy electric cars. In Italy, despite the budget for the purchase of a car being the lowest in Europe at around 15.000 euros, 39% of Italians said they were willing to consider buying an electric vehicle in the next 12 months, even if uncertainties remain regarding costs (55%), battery recharging (32%) and range on long journeys (25%).

Increase interest in policies

A insurance level, the choice of company mainly depends on the price of the policy, followed by the reliability. THE services considered most important are theroad assistance and replacement vehicle: in Italy they are respectively 87% and 84%, followed by stolen vehicle tracking (81%, above the European average). grows theinterest in pick-up & delivery, the service that provides for the collection and home delivery of the vehicle in the event of malfunction, tire change or maintenance, considered capable of making the difference in the choice of an insurance company and for which Italians would be willing to pay an additional price (54%).
The means of sustainable mobility are still underinsured in Italy but about 65% would be willing to do so.

And in the future?

For the future, the Italians (and at the European level the Portuguese) expect to walk more and increase theuse of two wheels, but also of the means of public transport, in contrast with other European countries. Many, however, are those who declare themselves reluctant to definitively abandon their car, even if in Europe the Italians prove to be the most inclined to do so (41%).
