Soft mobility: cycle paths, the funds are arriving

Anyone who has bought a new bike is still waiting for the government bonus, but the funds for the cycle paths are about to arrive to the Mayors. Government and Regions have signed the agreement for the distribution of 137,2 million euros to organize this other piece of sustainable mobility. Money sees the North ahead of the South with 87,1 million euros compared to 45,9 million. Something is advancing in small steps in the review of the social models of metropolitan areas, especially after the Covid 19 epidemic. If we start from urban circularity, we need to consider the levels of negativity accumulated for urban and extra-urban travel aboard diesel and petrol cars. The moment, as the analyzes of Legambiente, Enea and environmental doctors confirm, must be seized on the fly.

The State-Regions conference sanctioned the effectiveness of a decree of the Ministers of Infrastructures of Cultural Heritage to develop the system of tourist cycle paths. THE In practice, mayors will have to design and build urban lanes, cycle stations and all the interventions useful for the safety of city traffic. In short, a bit slowly, but also Italian cities are moving towards eco-sustainable mobility standards that have become true excellence in France, Denmark, Sweden, Holland.

The allocation of funds provides for the allocation of 51,4 million for 2020 and 85,8 million for 2021. The context is the one traced by the Relaunch Decree which, as we said, has foreseen incentives for the purchase of bicycles and scooters. The funds are due to the Metropolitan Cities, to the Capital Municipalities of the Metropolitan City, Province or Region, and to Municipalities with a resident population exceeding 50 inhabitants. A technical criterion for obtaining them is also having prepared a PUMS (Urban Plan for Sustainable Mobility).

Plus there is a share of others 4,2 million euros in favor of Municipalities where a university institution has its registered office, this to favor the intermodality of connections between university poles and railway stations. Overall, the money is a taste of the General Plan for Cycling Mobility that the Minister of Infrastructure Paola De Micheli must launch.
