After months of waiting, start today in Barcelona the Mobile World Congress 2012, the most important appointment of the year for the mobile telephony universe. An unmissable event for all technology enthusiasts, in which all the new arrivals will be presented by the world's leading companies in the sector. The only luxury absentee is Apple, which is preparing to launch the new iPad3 in ten days. Here is a preview of some company-by-company news.

SAMSUNG - The Korean giant could definitively defeat Apple's competition on smartphones with the new jewel of the year, the highly anticipated Galaxy S3, for which, however, we will have to wait another month. On the other hand, the new range of budget mobile phones will be presented in the Catalan capital, headed by the Samsung Star 3, and some excellent "plug-gaps", such as the Galaxy S2 Plus and the Note S. The most tempting innovations, however, will arrive in field of tablets, with the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and, perhaps, with a mysterious super-device, equipped with an even larger screen.

SONY – For the first time, the Sony-Ericsson brand will no longer appear on smartphones: the Japanese house has in fact divorced from the Swedish partner Ericsson, and will present a preview of the new Xperia S on its own, together with the full version of its "younger brothers" Xperia U and P. All models will have the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich on board, while there are no news regarding the tablet, postponed until spring. Among other things, Sony is back from the launch of the new portable console PlayStation Vita.

NOKIA – Despite the serious crisis it is going through, which has led the latest balance to be the worst in history, Nokia arrives in Catalan land full of desire for redemption. The CEO himself, Stephen Elop, will present the new Windows Phones: the most interesting news of the Finnish company are in fact branded Microsoft, in particular the WP7, that Lumia 610 that could be all the rage in the coming months. In all likelihood, the Pureview 808 will also be exhibited – a sort of swan song of the Symbian operating system – which will be nothing more than a restyling of the old N8, with a top-level camera.

LG - The Italian company is a candidate to be the great revelation of this MWC 2012thanks above all to two products: the Optimus 4X HD, which is the first smartphone that uses a quad-core processor from Nvidia's Tegra 3 series, along with a nice 4,7-inch display with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. And then the Optimus 3D Max, which will have slightly lower characteristics but, thanks to its 4,3-inch autostereoscopic screen, will allow you to see even two-dimensional widgets and applications in 3D.

HTC- The Taiwanese, rulers of the last editions, are forced not to disappoint. There is talk of a new 10-inch tablet - unlikely, considering that the Flyer was a flop -, while on the phone front the One X will contend with the LG Optimus for the title of king of the event. The two smartphones, in fact, share the same processor and the same screen, so in the end the difference will be the interface and, from this point of view, HTC seems to have a slight advantage from its new Sense 4.0.
