Amusement parks, which have been closed for more than a year now due to the Covid-19 pandemic, have become vaccination centres. After Disneyland, which in California has made its facilities available to vaccinate the population, in Italy it's up to Mirabilandia, the largest amusement park in the country, which will make part of its spaces available to set up a vaccination center.
"The attention we have always paid to the territory and its population has made us enthusiastically join the Confindustria campaign to become a vaccination center - explains Riccardo Marcante, general manager of mirabilandia -. Having large open spaces, we have been thinking about this possibility for some time, gathering information and trying to find the right operating methods. We are in contact with the competent political and health authorities and, if necessary, we could make them available a large area of our parking lot".
The Mirabilandia amusement park is located 20 km from Ravenna, less than 30 from Forlì and Cesena and can be easily reached from many towns on the coast. Inside, work is underway for the start of the 2021 season, hoping that finally, thanks to vaccines, parks can reopen safely. In the meantime, however, the leaders of Mirabilandia have decided to lend a hand, transforming the park into a center where vaccines are administered to the population.
Two months ago had been Disneyland to make the same decision of Orange County, Calif. The theme parks of the American giant have been closed since last March due to the restrictions imposed to counter the pandemic. Closures that triggered heavy losses and prompted the company to announce more than 32 layoffs that will be carried out, according to forecasts, in the first half of 2021. Since the end of January, therefore, the Anaheim park has become a mass vaccination center, the largest of the entire region.
