Minimum pensions, increases from 1 July: who is entitled to them, how much they amount and arrears. Here are the INPS instructions

The minimum pensions. After 6 months of waiting, since July 1, 2023'Inps will provide pensioners who receive lower benefits the increases foreseen by the budget law 2023, complete with backlog valid for the months from January to June. 

Minimum pensions: from 1 July the increases, that's who they belong to

The details relating to the increases in minimum pensions were indicated by INPS in Circular No. 35 published last April 3rd. The increases will be recognized to those who receive "The total gross pension payment, of an amount equal to or less than minimum INPS treatment".

The gross amount refers only to social security treatments, subject to Irpef, for which subjectability to the cumulative equalization regime is indicated, or paid by INPS. I am instead excluded from the calculation, non-taxable benefits such as the social bonus, the fourteenth month salary, the additional amount of the pension). Also excluded are welfare services, those of an optional nature and accompaniment to retirement.

The increase is due for all months from January 2023 to December 2024, including the thirteenth. For pensions whose effective date is between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024, the increase is due from the effective date of the pension.

Minimum pensions: how much is the increase 

According to the instructions provided by INPS, the minimum pensions will increase by'1,5% for treatments equal to or less than the minimum INPS treatment in 2023 and del 2,7% in 2024. For retirees aged 75 or over, however, the increase for 2023 is equal to 6,4%.

Translated into figures: pensioners under the age of 75 who receive a pension of 563,74 euros will be entitled in 2023 to an increase of 8,46 euros per month, reaching 572,2 euros. From 75 years onwards the increase will be instead of 36,08 euro monthly, with the allowance rising from 563,74 to 599,32 euros per month.

“These amounts represent the limit of access to the benefit for 2023 – informs INPS – The adjustment on the basis of the definitive revaluation index will be made during the equalization for the year 2024. The amounts ofincrease for the year 2024 they will be determined when the pensions are renewed for the same year”, concludes the Institute.

Minimum pensions: arrears are also on the way

On July 1, not only the increases for the month of June will arrive, but also the arrears relating to the months from January to May. As mentioned, in fact, based on the provisions of the 2023 Budget Law, the increases should have started in January 2023, but the INPS needed time to prepare the procedure and the new calculation mechanisms.
