To play the De Profundis of minibots is Giancarlo Giorgetti. The undersecretary to the Prime Minister, as well as a former Bocconian and true economic brain of the League, has laid a tombstone on the idea of securitizing public debts with companies in small-denomination government bonds: "But do minibots seem plausible to you? If they could be done, everyone would".
A real U-turn, given that, just two weeks ago, Giorgetti was defending minibots defining them as one of the "possible solutions" to solve the public administration's debt problem.
But it's not over. Giorgetti went further, to the point of discrediting Claudio Borghi, his party mate, but also a staunch supporter of the pro-Italexit front and inventor of minibots as a "gimmick" to achieve the exit from the euro: "Are there those who still believe in Borghi?”, asked the undersecretary with biting irony.
The timing of these statements is not accidental. Giorgetti has been indicated for weeks as the man that the yellow-green government wants to propose for the seat of the European Commission that belongs to Italy. And since the festival of nominations has reached its decisive stages in Brussels, the Bocconian from the Northern League must have thought that a torpedo against minibots would have helped him to get his candidacy digested by the other European partners. If not as the most pro-European, Giorgetti still presents himself as the least Eurosceptic of the Salvinian team.
For his part, Borghi replied that the minibots “are plausible, it is true that they have never been made. It's something we've discussed many times, even recently, Salvini agrees. There is no incident with Giorgetti. Of course it is a very courageous thing, difficult to bring home given the negative reactions of half the world”. As for Giorgetti's phrase "there is someone who still believes in Borghi", the Northern League exponent comments by saying that he does not believe those "in quotes from the agencies, so many times they wrote things of mine that were neither in heaven nor on earth" .
