Beijing exceeds New York by number of resident billionaires. The sensational data is contained in the latest world ranking of the scrooges published by Forbes. It is the first time that the Chinese capital has gained the lead in the ranking, monopolized in the last seven years by the Big Apple.

In detail, Beijing matters today 100 billionaires, a third more than last year (+33). The surge allows the Chinese megalopolis to leap from fourth to first place in the rankings in 12 months, overtaking even his majesty in a sprint New York, which also remains a minimum distance, with 99 billionaires.

Beijing's takeover was favored by two factors: first of all, China's ability to re-emerge from the crisis triggered by Covid earlier and better than the other major world economies; secondly, the successes on the macro front have been accompanied by the strengthening of the Dragon stock market, especially in the field of technology industries.

But the Chinese victory is not total. In fact, if we don't consider the number of billionaires as a parameter, but the size of theirs cumulative assets, New York remains in the lead, with an advantage of 80 billion dollars over Beijing.

As for individual Scrooges, the richest individual in the Chinese capital is Zhang Yiming, founder of TikTok and CEO of the ByteDance holding. His net worth has doubled from last year to a whopping $35,6 billion.

In the Big Apple, however, the scepter of the wealthiest man remains in the hands of the former mayor Michael Bloomberg, an information and financial services tycoon with assets worth $59 billion.

In all, always according to the ranking of Forbes, this year China has 210 more billionaires than in 2020, an increase that brings the total to 694. Also on this front, the United States remains ahead, where there are 724 billionaires, or 110 more than last year.

The third country for the number of billionaires is theIndia, with 140. Overall, there are 1.149 billionaires in the Asia-Pacific region and they manage $4.700 trillion in assets, compared to $4.400 trillion for US billionaires.
