Il Italian textile, a sector with over 5 billion euros in annual turnover, in 2021 saw growth of 9,9% and this year it should be able return to pre-pandemic levels despite the sword of Damocles hanging over raw material prices in general and energy prices in particular.

These data emerged on the occasion of the launch of the 34th edition of Unique Milan, the reference fair for high-end fabrics and accessories, sectors that are the basis of women's and men's clothing and of the big Italian brands.

“The apparel fabrics sector recorded a growth trend of +9.9% last year,” he said Charles Ferro, President of ICE Agency. “However, it is still not enough to recover the pandemic-induced downturn in 2020, which saw the fashion sectors among the most affected”.
It is in any case an expanding sector that has great peculiarities, very different from those of the textile industry that can be seen outside our borders. “We were attracted by the low import prices, but the Italian specificity cannot be imported”.

Il weaving sector it is still 23% down compared to 2019 and the trade balance, now around 1,7/1,8 billion, is still subdued compared to the 2,5 billion before the pandemic has reminded Sergio Tamborini president of Smi (Sistema Moda Italia), as well as managing director of Ratti. “The world of fashion is from compare to FerrariTamborini said. “Whoever wins is not just the rider, who couldn't do without all the engineers and technicians who work around them, referring to the big brands and all the textile industries that support them. We need to bring young people to work at Ferrari".

It has been underlined from many quarters that this sector needs to develop the workforce.

“In the coming months the sector will need to 59.000 new people to employHe said Cyril Marcolin, president of Confindustria Moda, underlining the importance and commitment to the professional growth of the employees, Training was one of the topics most dealt with at today's event which saw exhibitors growing by 27 percent compared to the previous edition of July 2021: 291 Italians (+30%) and about fifty foreigners (+13%).

Even the president of Milano Unica, Alessandro Barberis Canon, lingered on the disaffection of the younger generations with regard to work in the textile industry, citing the example of the case of Biella, where there are 36 profiles that are difficult to find, some of which are even unobtainable in the face of thousands of unemployed.

Tomorrow the second day of the event, with the appointment with Back to School, with Brunello Cucinelli who will meet the students of the main fashion and costume schools.
