Milan-Rome in 30 minutes? From 2030 it will be possible

The Virgin Hyperloop supersonic train project is already in an experimental phase in the USA: within a decade Fiumicino will be reachable from Rome in less than 2 minutes, Turin from Venice in 25 minutes. Prices? “Not exorbitant”.

Milan-Rome in 30 minutes? From 2030 it will be possible

Milan-Rome in half an hour, Turin-Venice in 25 minutes, but also Milan-Malpensa in less than two minutes, the same time it will take to connect Rome to Fiumicino airport. Science fiction? Teleportation? No, it's already a reality and in 10 years it could become normality, thanks to the visionary project of the usual Elon Musk, who together with Richard Branson launched the Hyperloop project in 2014, the capsule-shaped train that travels at supersonic speed, at 1.200 kilometers per hour. And which consequently, in the not too distant future, could revolutionize transport. Other than high speed: currently technology allows you to connect Milan and Rome in less than 3 hours, without stops, a time unthinkable until a few years ago but which in a decade will probably be demolished.

And not even at exorbitant prices, given that the only Italian shareholder of Virgin Hyperloop, Paolo Barletta, told Corriere della Sera that "passenger costs will be half between 70 euros for the train and 140 euros for the plane“. So presumably around 100 euros one way or a little more, more or less as much as a full-price ticket on the Frecciarossa or Italo. When? Not before 2030, but in the meantime the experimentation of the fastest train ever proceeds at a rapid pace and will also see Italy as a protagonist. In November in Las Vegas there was the first test with passengers, on a short stretch and without reaching the maximum speed assumed. "Speed of course, but also safety and low ecological impact: we have shown that Hyperloop is not a film or a novel," said CEO Jay Walder, a veteran of public transport in cities like New York and London.

In the United States some routes are already ready: in a short while Chicago and Pittsburgh will be reachable from each other in 30 minutes (by plane it takes 2 hours), while in the rest of the world the United Arab Emirates have already come forward, at the I work for connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 12 minutes. Italy is carving out a central role in Europe: the "Hyperloop Technologies Department" was inaugurated in Bologna by Hyperloop Italia, an innovative center where the project opened by Silaw, the advisor who followed the landing in our country of this revolutionary startup. “The new department dedicated to Hyperloop technologies will be able to help the entire new supply chain that is emerging around our initiative,” commented Bibop Gresta, President and CEO as well as founder of Hyperloop Italia.

“Hyperloop – explained the manager – is a supersonic capsule that moves in tubes with reduced pressure, low energy consumption and totally powered by sustainable energy, capable of reaching a speed of 1.200 km per hour, conceived and designed by the best specialists on the planet. The evolution of land transport will take shape within this decade, and I am proud to be able to think that my country will be among the first in the world to travel at supersonic speed, in a safe, efficient and sustainable transport system.”
