Milan, on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile Sotheby's presents "Mobili d'Artista"

Following the retrospective dedicated to Gaetano Pesce, held by Sotheby's in Paris last February, the Milan saleroom hosts Furniture and Furnishing Objects of great interest, as they are representative of the production of important XNUMXth century artists and designers such as Diego Giacometti, Alexander Calder, Arman, Niki de Saint Phalle and François-Xavier Lalanne, Daniel Buren, Philolaos and Antonio Saura.

Noteworthy are two pieces of furniture by Arman, in gilded bronze and glass, which offer two different variations of the cello motif dear to the French artist: they are Console aux violoncelles (val. €12.000-15.000) and Table aux violoncelles et saxophones (val.15.000-20.000 €), dated 1990.

T followsable Serpents, a glass and mirror mosaic table, made by Niki de Saint Phalle and decorated with lively and visionary animal and plant representations (val. €25.000-35.000).

An unconventional artist, Saint Phalle's works are exhibited in some of the most prestigious museums in the world, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Tate Modern in London, not forgetting the famous Giardino of the Garavicchio Tarot in Tuscany. Sotheby's New York will dedicate the selling exhibition Joie de Vivre in April to Niki de Saint Phalle, which will be followed by an important retrospective at the Grand Palais in Paris in October 2014.

It is also important to mention Table-berceau, seconde version of Diego Giacometti, an elegant bronze and glass coffee table estimated at €80.000-120.000. The work, created in 1970, visually recalls the sculptures of his brother Alberto, with whom Diego worked side by side in the atelier on Rue Hippolyte Maindron in Paris for over thirty years, but also exemplifies the personal aesthetic development that Diego carried on after the death of Alberto Giacometti in 1965.  We recall that the first version of 1963 was recently sold at the Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale in London for over 200.000 GBP.

Also made in bronze is Singe (monkey), a work by the sculptor François-Xavier Lalanne from 1999, in a brown tone and 76 cm high, valued at €40.000-60.000.

Certainly attracting the attention of contemporary design enthusiasts are two glazed ceramics by Daniel Buren (with valuations of €10.000-12.000 and €8.000-10.000), a set of chairs made in 1961 by Philolaos, estimated at €6.000-8.000, tapestries by Calder and carpets by Antonio Saura, valued respectively at €4.000-6.000 and €15.000-20.000.
