Milan, Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation: “1961. Continuity time”

La Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation continues the historical-critical investigation of the 50s and 60s in Italy, launched in 2013 with the two initiatives dedicated to the beginnings of Arnaldo Pomodoro need Henry Baj.

In 1961 a series of exhibitions presented the "Continuità" group on the national and international scene, which made use of an important critical framework by Giulio Carlo Argan and the active complicity of Guido Ballo.

Gathered around the innovative genius of Lucio Fontana, from whose manifesto of spatialism the group takes up the suggestive statement “Art is not eternal; finite man continues infinity”, some of the best exponents of research that opposes the emphasis of the informal in the name of a clearer non-objective reason travel along an intense stretch of the common road.
The group does not gather around a theoretical or programmatic manifesto according to the custom of the time, but takes the form of an aggregation of qualitatively eminent and authoritative personalities at the moment of their first, full maturity.

The exhibition, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni with the collaboration of Federico Giani, documents with highly significant works the presence of all the artists who took part in the group's events: Franco Bemporad, Piero Dorazio, Lucio Fontana, Gastone Novelli, Achille Perilli, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Gio' Pomodoro and Giulio Turcato, and again Arturo Carmassi, Pietro Consagra, Sergio Dangelo, Mattia Moreni, Ettore Sottsass and Tancredi.

In the season of radical neo-avant-gardes, from Azimut to Zero, from GRAV to Gruppo T, the authors of "Continuity" claim the centrality of the role of painting and sculpture, in the name of an art which is, primarily, of values.
