The policy of sustainable and shared mobility, in support of a continuously improving public transport network, is bearing fruit in Milan. In 3 years the number of cars in Milan fell by 38 thousand (50 in 9 years), for the first time since the 60s below 700. Today in the Milanese city there are 1,93 inhabitants per car against a national average of 1,64 (the highest in Europe with the exception of Luxembourg). The congestion charge launched in January 2012 eliminated 25 million car transits in the city center in three years: -38% of fine particles in 2014 compared to 2010, -59% of black carbon.
