Milan, New Year's Eve 2019: here are the events from Scala to Mudec

Between Christmas and the start of the new year, Milan has a wide range of events for tourists and residents. The center of the celebrations will be Piazza Duomo as every year. Furthermore, a series of concerts at La Scala are planned for the end of the year and the beginning of the new year. Here is a guide to events, shows and exhibitions for those staying in the city

After the year-end events in Florence , here is the calendar of appointments in Milan between Christmas, New Year's Eve and the beginning of January. The center of the New Year's Eve festivities is Piazza Duomo, as usual in the square there will be the traditional concert with Francesco Gabbani. At the Scala of Milan with the Galà Verdi, a musical show dedicated to the great Italian composer will take place on the last evening of 2018. It will be an evening full of music with the Orchestra of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, directed by the Director Paolo Carignani. Soprano Maria José Siri, tenor Jorge de León, baritone Simone Piazzola and bass Riccardo Zanellato will also take part in the concert. Instead, the new year will open under the banner of great classical and Baroque music: Georg Friedrich Händel flanked by Johann Sebastian Bach in the New Year's Concert that the laVerdi orchestra will offer to the public of Jerome Theater. The concert is scheduled for Thursday 17 and Friday 18 January 2019. For further information, the Municipality of Milan has set up a website about it.

Trade shows:

  • Mudec, from 28 November 2018 to 14 April 2019: “A Visual Protest, The art of Banksy”. Banksy's art manifests itself as an explicit and biting provocation against the arrogance of the establishment and power, conformism, war, consumerism. Also at the Mudec from 31 October 2018 to 3 March 2019 the exhibition on "Paul Klee" will be exhibited. It will be presented both through his abstract and polychrome works and through his lesser-known caricatured works; at the same time, precise research on sources, iconographic and formal repertoires and textual documents give an account of the complexity of the artist's cultural background, the vastness of his production and the breadth of the techniques he uses.
  • Steam Factory from 9 October 2018 to 10 February 2019: multimedia exhibition "Inside Magritte"
  • Hall of the King – Galleria Vittorio Emanuele from 1 March 2013 to 31 December 2018: “Leonardo3 Museum”. An unmissable exhibition that allows you to discover the real Leonardo da Vinci, artist and inventor, thanks to unpublished reconstructions of his machines and restorations of his paintings in a world preview.
  • Morando Palace from 8 November 2018 to 10 February 2019: "Milan and the cinema". It documents the history of cinema in Milan with particular attention to the films that have paid homage to the city, from Michelangelo Antonioni's Chronicle of Love to Vittorio De Sica's Miracle in Milan to Luchino Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers, helping to consolidate the image of the city as protagonist of industrial and economic development.
  • Royal Palace from 4 October 2018 to 3 February 2019: “Carlo Carrà”. It traces the entire career of the great Milanese artist, starting from the pointillist period to the masterpieces of Futurism and Metaphysics, from the paintings attributable to the so-called "plastic values", up to the landscapes and still lifes, without neglecting the original compositions of the Thirties.
  • Museo del Novecento from 21 September 2018 to 24 February 2019: "Signs, colors and lights in Milan", dedicated to Margherita Sarfatti

 Theater:

  • Carcan Theater from 29 December 2018 to 1 January 2019: "Sleeping Beauty".
  • Ciak Theatre from 31 December 2018 to 20 January 2019: “Men in Italy”. It is a romantic and funny story made up of love affairs and hilarious situations.
  • Arcimboldi Theater from 13 December 2018 to 6 January 2019: “Mamma Mia!”. The story at the center of the musical comedy shines for romance and fun: among the beauties of a Greek island in the Mediterranean Sea, to the overwhelming rhythm of Abba's music, the young Sofia is organizing her wedding. But before living her dream of love, she does everything to fulfill her greatest wish: to be accompanied down the aisle by her father whom she has never known before. For this she calls the three historical boyfriends of her mother of her Donna of her to the island, to find out which of them is the right man.
  • Teatro Nazionale from 5 October to 31 December: “Mary Poppins – the Musical”
  • New Theatre on December 31st: “Instant Theatre” with Enrico Bertolino who combines current events, politics, satire, news and customs, a laughable show that reflects on today's society.
  • Teatro Manzoni from 11 December 2018 to 1 January 2019: "With all my heart" with Vincenzo Salemme. It is a comedy that tells the story of a teacher of ancient literature: Ottavio Camaldoli, who undergoes a heart transplant from a ferocious criminal.
