Milan, Cambi: success for the Venetian glass auction

Auction at Palazzo Serbelloni of XNUMXth century decorative arts with particular attention to the international success of the section dedicated to Venetian glass

Milan, Cambi: success for the Venetian glass auction

The auction began with the awarding for €57.500,00 of a vase by Hans Stotenberg Lerche from the early 900s, a very rare author who had not appeared on the market since 1999 and immediately afterwards the fever rose with the gavel which stopped at €200 for the vase on the cover, another masterpiece made in Murrino glass by Vittorio Zecchin (000-00).

But it is with the works of Carlo Scarpa, released from the furnaces of the Cappellin and Venini glassworks in the 30s and 40s, that the auction reached its climax with two refined vases in the Fili technique, sold for €143.750,00 and €106.250,00. All was proceeding for the best when the auction experienced an even more overwhelming upsurge which defeated the results of the sale of a glass collection that had just concluded on June 7 in New York in the rooms of Sotheby's and which confirmed Milan as the best market place. A murrine a dama vase by Paolo Venini, similar to the one on the cover of New York, fetched €172.800,00 out of a valuation of €15.000÷20.000 and even more a rare vase decorated with polychrome canes arranged in a mosaic, also by Venini, it reached the incredible figure of €250.000,00, the highest price ever achieved by a Murano glass vase in Italy, six times the value of a similar one on the American market.

Dino Martens (1894-1970) also obtained excellent awards with the beautiful Eldorado vase (€231.250,00) and some rare pieces by Thomas Stearns (1936-2006) such as the Cappello del Doge, perhaps the most interesting vase produced over the years 60 in Italy, at €87.500,00.

In the afternoon, a quieter auction was held in the same rooms with a selection of 900th century Decorative Arts with good results: a rare 1929 Lenci by Giuseppe Porcheddu sold for €16.000,00, the refined gouache on the cover by Erté ( 1892-1990) for €7.500,00 and a rare French liberty table with bronzes for €12.288,00.
