Milan-Juve, crossroads for the Scudetto and for Europe

If ex Allegri's bianconeri were to win tonight at San Siro, they would mortgage a good chunk of their fifth Scudetto but Milan, back from a week of training camp, want to play for Europe and save the shaky bench of their coach Sinisa Mihajlovic – Dybala still absent in Juve, no Bertolacci and perhaps Montolivo among the Rossoneri.

Milan-Juve, crossroads for the Scudetto and for Europe

A classic in name, more than in fact. There is no doubt that in the history of football there have been much more important Milan-Juventus matches than today, yet the confrontation between the Rossoneri and the Bianconeri always has its charm, regardless of the stakes. Which remains very high for Allegri's men, very fast towards a Scudetto that was unthinkable a group ago and instead is getting closer and closer, also in light of the difficulties encountered by Napoli. “We're fighting for a piece of the title – confirmed the Juventus coach at the press conference. – I feel a strange euphoria around, but we haven't won anything yet. Let your guard down would be a big mistake, there are 7 games left in the championship and anything can still happen. And then Milan are playing in the Europa League, moreover they are coming from a week of training and will want to unleash all their accumulated nervous energies on the pitch”. The other side of the coin of this 220th clash (194 in the league) is represented by the Rossoneri, increasingly dejected by a bankruptcy season, the umpteenth for several years now. It goes without saying that, as always, the one who has the most to lose is Sinisa Mihajlovic, now close to ending her adventure on the Milan side of the Naviglio. His confirmation for next year is almost impossible, indeed many think that Berlusconi could even sack him sooner than expected, in an attempt to shake up the environment in view of the Italian Cup final on May 21, the only (and very important) objective left.

“I'm judged by results, like all coaches in the world after all – commented the Serbian coach. – If we continue to suck (textual, ed) it is right that they kick me out, even before the end. I can only say that I will give my best as long as I am here, I will always have a clear conscience on this". A self-epitaph more than a press conference, ironically right in front of that Massimiliano Allegri badly kicked out two years ago and today more and more regretted. “I'm going back to a place where I spent three wonderful years – glossed over the Tuscan coach. – I can't judge their season from the outside, I think they have a good team and can still hit the Europa League”. Revenge therefore declined, at least in words. Because on the field the Lady will not give anyone discounts and this despite the usual absences due to injuries and disqualifications. The bianconeri will have to give up Dybala, Chiellini, Pereyra and Khedira, the latter "stopped" by the Federal Court of Appeal. However, Allegri will rely on his usual 3-5-2 with Buffon in goal, Barzagli, Bonucci and Rugani in defense, Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Marchisio, Pogba and Alex Sandro in midfield, Mandzukic and Morata in attack. Problems also for Mihajlovic, forced to do without Bertolacci (suspended) and grappling with only one big doubt in the midfield: relying on Montolivo (struggling with a muscle problem but still available) or launching the young Locatelli, director of fine hopes of which much good is said. At the moment the first hypothesis seems more probable, with the captain teaming up with Kucka in the usual 4-4-2, but the decision will only be made during the day. For the rest of the regular formation: Donnarumma in goal, Abate, Alex, Romagnoli and Antonelli in defence, Honda and Bonaventura on the flanks, Bacca and Balotelli in attack. Despite the discouragement (2 points in the last 4 games) the pre-sale went quite well, so much so that it is assumed that the San Siro will be very close to being sold out (probably many tickets went to Juventus fans): because Milan-Juventus, apart from beyond rankings and goals, it remains a classic that nobody wants to miss.
