Milan and Rome disappoint but Higuain gets back to scoring

After the misstep of Saturday, here are those of Sunday. Milan and Roma wanted (and had to) take advantage of Inter's defeat, but they didn't go beyond two draws which, matches and opponents in hand, can only leave a bad taste in the mouth. Of course, it is always said that the Italian championship takes nothing for granted and this must always be taken into consideration, especially after the break for the national teams which, fatally, penalizes the big ones more than the small ones, but the Rossoneri and Giallorossi could do a lot more.

The 1-1 at the Sardegna Arena and the 2-2 at the Olimpico mean that both teams are far from being mature and that the Scudetto, as easily predictable, will once again be the affair of Juventus (for sure) and Napoli ( Perhaps). Let's start with Milan and the draw against Cagliari. Fair result overall and son of a two-sided match, in which Gattuso's team sensationally got the wrong approach.

The first 20' were all rossoblu, so much so that the only goal from Joao Pedro (4') was far too narrow for Maran, forced to despair for Barella's post and a couple of other really important chances. Then Milan, once the storm passed, raised their head and center of gravity, relying on the highest technical rate and the best solutions from the bench. After devouring two colossal goals with Bonaventura, at the start of the second half Higuain took advantage of a mistake by Cagliari and canceled that annoying "0" from the goals scored box (55').

It seemed to be the beginning of a comeback, but the result hasn't changed any more and the Rossoneri, despite having some chances in the final (great save by Cragno on Suso and a header just wide by Higuain), had to settle for a draw . “The first 20' were embarrassing, if we had gone down by 2 goals we would never have recovered – Gattuso's analysis. – We can't get this wrong, we have to solve this problem. We came out well afterwards but that's not the point: playing well isn't enough, you need to be able to read the games much better."

If Milan closes the fourth day with a bitter taste, Roma does the same to the nth degree. The 2-2 draw against Chievo unleashed the people of the Olimpico, as noisy as after a defeat: after all, a result like this, after being ahead by two goals, is more or less the same. And to think that the match had gone very well for Di Francesco, who in the space of half an hour cheered twice for goals by El Shaarawy (10') and Cristante (30'). All finished? Absolutely not! In the second half Chievo first found a 1-2 draw with Birsa (52'), then a 2-2 draw with Stepinski (83') and in the final only a great save by Olsen took the clamorous 2-3 away from Jackets.

“I am certainly embittered, we were in full control – Di Francesco's bitter comment. – Unfortunately we are not very bad and concrete, and we also concede goals too easily. These mistakes must not be repeated in Madrid…”. Yes, because on Wednesday the Giallorossi will visit Lopetegui's European champions at the Bernabeu. Not really a pleasure trip, especially with these premises.
