Heart-pounding Milan: wins in the 92nd minute and hooks the Champions area

Trick or treat? On Halloween night, Milan allows itself not to choose, giving its fans both things: the "treat", because the Champions League area tastes like cotton candy, the "treat", because the Rossoneri people, in order to cheer, he had to wait for the 92nd minute. In fact, the success against Genoa could rightfully enter the dictionary of synonyms under the heading "heart-pounding": how else to define a 2-1 in full stoppage time signed by Romagnoli with an improbable endorsement? But if it's fair to say that a better performance was legitimate, it's also fair to recognize that the 3 points, in light of the standings, were and remain the most important thing, especially at a time like this.

In fact, we must not forget that Milan, exactly one week ago, were defeated and humiliated by Betis in their home and that their coach's fate was substantially linked to the matches against Sampdoria and Genoa. Two victories or exemption, this was the mantra repeated by all the media (with complicit silence from the club): sword scenario rather than foil, exactly what someone like Gattuso does best.

"I may or may not like it, I won't be the first nor the last to go through difficult moments - the coach glossed over at the press conference - We are happy with fourth place but now we have to stay there, we know it's complicated and we haven't done it yet nothing but it sure is something important, especially in light of what we've been through”.

And so, in the space of a week, Milan passes from the abyss to the light, or rather the Champions League area. Yesterday's 2-1 allows the hook up to Lazio at an altitude of 18 points, effectively eliminating the gap created at the beginning of the championship. But if the results arrive (4 victories in the last 5), the game paradoxically seems to get involved. Purists turn up their noses at a team that changes system every game (yesterday 3-5-2 at the start and subsequent conversion to 4-4-2), concedes a deluge of goals (14, never a match without conceding at least one) and losing pieces dangerously (after Caldara Biglia also stopped), the results instead underline the second best attack in the championship (only one goal less than Juve), the ability to react and, obviously, the fourth place in the standings.

The truth, as often happens, lies in the middle but what remains are the 3 points, earned with two totally antipode goals. The first arrived in the 4th minute with Suso (great left foot from outside the area), the second, decisive, in full recovery thanks to an "Ibra" turn by Romagnoli, aided by a guilty exit by Radu (92'). In the midst of many different phases: first the pressure from Genoa, then the inevitable draw (56', own goal by Romagnoli himself), finally a Rossoneri assault more from the heart than from the brain which however seemed to have found an insurmountable wall in Radu. It seemed, precisely, because then, as previously mentioned, the rossoblu goalkeeper combined it big thus allowing Milan to win the match and Gattuso to cast out the witches. And on Halloween night, you know, there can be nothing more important.
