The migrant crisis continues at the Como train station, a few kilometers away from Switzerland, which hundreds of refugees would like to cross to then reach Germany and the countries of Northern Europe. Como is the last stop before Chiasso and the situation is like that of Ventimiglia on the border with France: migrants literally imprisoned on Italian territory and camped out in tents, awaiting the completion of 50 prefabricated buildings in the former Rizz area, where 300 of the 500 people could find a place from mid-September mostly arriving in Como from the Horn of Africa but also from the Maghreb and Nigeria.
Meanwhile, most of them are in inhumane conditions, as I am able to testify the photos and the exclusive video made by Firstonline Sunday 4 September, that is, during a hunger strike which is still ongoing and which involves almost all the migrants, who are protesting their condition and the impossibility of reaching other countries: in fact, yesterday at the tent where the canteen of the Caritas just 130 meals were served. At the San Giovanni station scuffles also broke out between the "no borders" and the Guardia di Finanza: the protesters are boys from Como but also a large group from Switzerland. All while in recent days, a few kilometers from there (in Cernobbio) the elite of world finance met, largely unaware of the situation, for the Ambrosetti Forum, at which Prime Minister Matteo Renzi also attended.
Meanwhile, today at the Interior Ministry, the Minister of the Interior, Angelino Alfano, and the president of the Anci, Piero Fassino, will meet to develop a redistribution plan for migrants present in the reception system. “There are some Municipalities – explained Minister Alfano – which have an excessive weight because they have been generous and perhaps the Municipality next to them tries to play smart. We have to solve these problems and do it in harmony with the Municipalities in a voluntary way ”. About 150 foreigners are welcomed and most (over 111) are in temporary structures. There are 1.200 municipalities hosting migrants.
In the first 8 months of 2016, according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, 105.342 migrants arrived by sea in Italy: 82% left from Libya and just over 5% from Tunisia. Landings have intensified again in the last few days: on Monday in the Strait of Sicily 23 separate rescue operations coordinated by the Rome Coast Guard Operations Center of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport rescued 2.700 people. In all, in the last week, landings on the Italian coasts exceeded 15 units.
