In fact, reciprocally, the Elysee emphasizes with an article that the two presidents Mattarella and Macron had a telephone conversation and reiterated "the great importance of relations between France and Italy".
The two presidents – informs the press release from the French presidency dated 12 November at 19 pm but published today 14 November – “both affirmed the great importance of relations between France and Italy and underlined the need to put together the conditions for a full cooperation in all sectors, both bilaterally and within the European Union”.
The news of the phone call between the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the French President Emmanuel Macron was disclosed in a joint press release, released by the two presidencies and posted on the home page of the Quirinale and Elysium websites.
The first step has therefore arrived, in the sense of détente, initiated by the Quirinal and the Elysee to bring relations between the two countries back to a more balanced track after the sparks caused by the behavior of the Meloni government on the landing of NGO ships in Sicily and the reception of Ocean Vicking in France. An escalation of tension on migrants – which culminated over the weekend – also exacerbated by the rash statements of the leader of the League Matteo Salvini who ended up isolating Italy within the EU.
