Migrants: more and more walls in Eastern Europe

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announces the construction of a new wall on the border with Croatia which, unlike Serbia, is a country of the European Union - The enormous flow of refugees through Croatia (13 people in 48 hours) has led the Government of Zagreb to the decision to close 7 of the 8 borders with Serbia

Migrants: more and more walls in Eastern Europe

THEHungary is ready to erect a new wall in an attempt to stop the flow of migrants who are fleeing war zones in Syria and Iraq hoping to reach the countries of central and northern Europe.

After the barrier on the border with Serbia, the Hungarian premier Viktor Orban announced the construction of a 41km wall to block entrances from Croatia, the country from which the greatest flow of refugees is arriving in recent days.

From Wednesday to today, 13 refugees have arrived in Croatian territory, a number of people that the Zagreb government considers unsustainable.

"Our capacity to receive refugees is at saturation point," said Croatian Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic. Thus Croatia has also decided, in turn, to close seven of its eight border crossings with Serbia.

But the decision by Hungary, a member of the European Union, to prevent transit from Croatia, also a member of the EU, marks the concrete weakening of the Schengen treaty in recent months. Since the migrant emergency has spread throughout Europe, many states have suspended free movement and reactivated border controls, starting with Austria and Slovenia.
