Microsoft: quarterly beyond expectations with Office and Windows 7

The IT giant closes the third quarter with slightly declining profits (to 5,11 billion dollars, -2,3%) and rising revenues (17,41 billion, +6%) – The stock recovers in the afterhours market and Marks a Three-Month Record Rise – Anticipation for Windows 8 is growing.

Not exciting numbers, but still beyond expectations for Microsoft. The US-branded IT giant closed the third fiscal quarter with earnings down to $5,11 billion, against the 5,23 recorded in the same period last year (-2,3%). THE revenues, on the other hand, grew to 17,41 billion (+6%). However, PC sales went better than expected (+1,9%). 

Based on these numbers, Actions Microsoft – which had lost just under a point on Thursday, to $31,01 – rallied in afterhours trading. In the quarter, the increase was 24%, the best figure since mid-2009.  

So far, in addition to computers, demand has mainly been driven the Office program and the Windows 7 operating system, although the expectations for the launch of Windows 8 they are still very tall. Microsoft focuses on the new operating system to shorten the distance from the competitor of all time, Apple, especially as regards the last frontier of mass information technology, the tablet.
