Microsoft closed the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 (March-June) in the red. Bill Gates' company registered losses of 492 million dollars, around 6 cents per share, in contrast with analysts' forecasts. The IT giant it had not had negative balance sheets for 26 years, i.e. since it went public on Wall Street.

To determine the negative result were write-downs recorded in online services, related to the acquisition in 2007 of the advertising agency aQuantitative. In addition, deferred revenues of $540 million from the upgrade of Windows 8, due out in October.

Overall turnover increased by 4% to 18,06 billion. News of Microsoft's losses comes the same day as the competitor Google announces 11% earnings growth, which could avoid the negative effects on the US price list.
