Microsoft: record turnover over 17 billion (+7,3%) in the first quarter, profits at +6,1%

Between August and September, the American IT giant saw sales grow especially in the online services sector (+19%) and in the office supplies sector (+9,4%) – Turnover for the server division increased by 10% and earnings by 3,7%.

Sales are up for Microsoft: the online services (+19%) and office (+9,4%) sector performed well above all. Among consumers, however, the market remained stable.

Thanks to these numbers, in any case, the IT giant closes the first fiscal quarter with a profit of 5,74 billion dollars (68 cents per share), compared to 5,41 billion, (62 cents per share) recorded in the same period last year. The increase is 6,1%.

As for the turnover, rose to $17,37 billion, up 7,3% compared to $16,2 billion in the first quarter of 2010. A record, according to the company. On this front, analysts' expectations were more modest: 17,24 billion dollars. Operating expenses grew 12%.

Positive accounts also for the division that deals with the Windows operating system and Windows Live, which recorded a 1,7% increase in turnover (while profits fell by 1,1%). It got even better at the server division, which saw turnover increase by 10% and profit by 3,7%.
