Michelle Obama lands on Netflix with a series on food education

From March 16, the new series signed by Michelle Obama Waffle + Mochi arrives on Netflix, produced by Higher Ground (the production house of Barack and Michelle Obama), focused on nutrition education. Childhood obesity is a very serious problem both in the United States and in Italy. With this initiative, Mrs. Obama's mission is very simple: to sensitize the little ones, but also adults, towards a healthy and balanced diet.

It is an innovative series, made up of 10 episodes lasting 20 minutes. A program designed for the little ones, to entice them to eat healthier but without sacrificing taste, but also useful for adults who will be able to find excellent advice and ideas.

The style recalls the Muppet Show: the protagonists are Waffle and Mochi, two puppets aspiring professional chefs who live in the Land of Frozen Food, but everything they cook is made of ice. Everything changes when the two friends are hired in an extravagant supermarket where, instead, the trolleys are full of fresh and genuine products. The friendly duo, thanks to the support of the supermarket owner (the former First Lady) and the help of chefs and celebrities, will begin to learn all the secrets of proper nutrition. Among the guests there will be Massimo Bottura, José Andrés, Jack Black, Gaten Matarazzo, Rashida Jones, Mandy Moore, Zach Galifianakis, rapper Common and many more.

Waffle and Mochi will travel the world, clinging to a magical flying shopping trolley, discovering new ingredients and new recipes: they will go to the Peruvian Andes to collect potatoes, taste Italian spices, go to Japan to prepare miso. A fantastic journey of taste and friendship, in which Waffle and Mochi will have the opportunity to connect with cultures from all over the world. Another theme touched by the series will be the sustainability and the importance of respecting nature and its products.

An innovative and, at the same time, educational project realized thanks to the collaboration between Messrs. Obama and the platform that started already in 2018, with American Factory and Crip Camp. This time, Mrs. Obama is the ambassador of an important but sometimes underestimated message: “good food: how to find it, cook it and above all eat it".

In addition, @PHAnews partners will offer fresh ingredients to American families in need, so they can cook and be inspired by the program.

Always sensitive to the issues of food, organic farming and sustainability, in 2009 Michelle Obama created a organic garden, to instill a positive message against eating disorders in American youth. What was harvested was consumed by the family and the leftovers went to local non-profit organizations, such as Miriam's Kitchen, the association that deals with offering meals to the homeless in Washington.

In addition, in 2012 he launched the “Let's Move” campaign to fight against childhood obesity and promoting a healthier lifestyle. “Becoming”, her biography of her, was one of the best-selling books in 2018 with which she also won a Grammy. With Waffle and Mochi, however, it is the first time that the former First Lady is directly addressing a pre-school audience, confirming herself as an icon of well-being and a healthy and balanced food style.
