MIART: the 20th edition opens, galleries, artists, projects and sustainability

The twentieth edition of myart la international modern and contemporary art fair in Milan organized by Fiera Milano has opened its doors and it will be possible to visit it from 1 April to 3 April.

This year myart it hosts the main Italian galleries thus strengthening its international role. The projects have been selected by the Committee and see the presence of artists, some of whom are protagonists of the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, Such as Carla Accardi, Tomaso Binga, Miriam Cahn, Giulia Cenci, Gabriel Chaile, Louise Nevelson, Joanna Piotrowska, Grazia Varisco, and many others.

The main objective of the twenty-sixth edition is to kick off a new phase: the first movement of a possible new symphony. Term borrowed from classical music and represents not only the desire to take a leap forward, but it is a reference to the history of art and to the succession of movements over time that intertwine and influence each other.
This idea of movement also plays a central role in the development of miart's new graphic identity and original photographic campaign, entrusted to Cabinet Milano, a multidisciplinary studio founded by Rossana Passalacqua and Francesco Valtolina. The same concept is therefore at the heart of a series of initiatives and collaborations activated by myart with businesses e institutions belonging to the world of music, dance and theatre.

Another important and interesting novelty is miart joining the Italian chapter of the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), (see our article from yesterday) international organization no profit originated in the UK in order to facilitate the decarbonisation of the art sector and the promotion of practices zero-waste. First fair in Italy to actively take part in the initiative, myart – which together with gallery owners, museum directors, artists and journalists is a founding member of GCC Italy – dedicates a special stand to the promotion of collective and systemic change in which the work is exhibited and put up for sale The developed seed (organizing a system that can continuously construct itself), copperversion-sequence 497, 2022, by Loris Cecchini – donated by the artist – whose proceeds will go to support the work of GCC. Informal panel discussions on climate issues take place on the stand every day. It also highlights the coherence of the effort undertaken by miart with the GCC the industrial plan of Fiera Milano which sees sustainability as a tool for creating value, with objectives linked to social and environmental issues which fall within 6 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Alongside these initiatives are added the many foreseen in the context of the new edition of the Milan Art Week (March 28 – April 3), the popular appointment – developed in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Milan – which celebrates the main public institutions and private foundations of the city. In fact, all the main exhibitions of the season will be inaugurated on the occasion of the fair, including Useless Bodies? by Elmgreen & Dragset at Fondazione Prada, When Fear Eats the Soul by Artur Zmijewski al PAC – Contemporary Art Pavilion, Yuli Yamagata from Ordet e Sunshine State by Steve McQueen from Pirelli HangarBicocca.
