After days of sun, heat and red dots all over Italy, something is about to change in the weather. But not right away.

Thursday there are 13 Italian cities that the Ministry of Health indicates with the red dot, almost triple compared to the 5 urban centers expected on Wednesday, the day in which the maximum level of heat risk affects Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Perugia and Turin, Thursday is also expected in Bologna, Frosinone, Genoa, Pescara, Rieti, Rome, Trieste and Verona. It is the highest level of heat risk, on a scale from 0 to 3, in which 5 green dots (no risk) also stand out, including Palermo and Reggio Calabria. 

In weekendOn the other hand, a perturbation associated with a depression will break the African anticyclone which currently dominates Western Europe and the Mediterranean, bringing with it thunderstorms – even violent ones – to the Centre-North. Inevitable repercussions also on temperatures, which in some central-northern regions could even drop by 8-10 degrees by Sunday. The heat, however, will remain almost stable in the South.

Here are the weather forecasts for the weekend by the Air Force.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR FRIDAY 26 JULY

In the North, cumulus accumulations in the Alpine, Pre-Alpine and Apennine areas with associated showers and thunderstorms, also extending to the flat areas in the early afternoon. A general improvement is expected from the late afternoon, with still cumulus accumulations in the Alps and pre-Alps in the evening, accompanied by scattered showers or thunderstorms, and partly cloudy or hazy skies over the rest of the north.

In the Center and in Sardinia, clear or partly cloudy skies in the early morning. From the second part of the morning, increase in cumulus cloudiness along the Apennine areas, with scattered showers or thunderstorms, from late morning and early afternoon. From the late afternoon, general thinning of the clouds, with fine weather in the evening throughout the centre.

In the South and in Sicily, a lot of sun apart from some weak afternoon gatherings expected on the Apennine ridge, which will be able to produce local short showers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SATURDAY JULY 27

In the North, in the morning compact concentrations on the Alpine regions and on the
Liguria, and cumulus clouds scattered over the rest of the north, with
scattered to widespread showers or thunderstorms. From the afternoon, gradual intensification of the phenomena in the north-west, with widespread and intense showers or thunderstorms in the evening in the Aosta Valley, Piedmont and coastal areas of eastern Liguria.

In Center and Sardinia, low clouds in the morning along the peninsular Tyrrhenian coastal areas; extensive and thick veils on the remaining peninsular sector and serene or partly cloudy skies over Sardinia. From the late afternoon, there was a noticeable increase in compact cloud cover over the Tyrrhenian regions, with widespread and intense showers or thunderstorms along the coastal areas of Tuscany.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SUNDAY 28 JULY

In the morning, very cloudy or overcast in the centre-north of the peninsula, Molise and Campania, with widespread and intense showers or thunderstorms.

Moderate bad weather in Sardinia, with scattered showers or thunderstorms, e
partly cloudy or veiled sky over the rest of the country.

From the afternoon extension of bad weather also in Basilicata and Calabria
Tyrrhenian, in subsequent partial attenuation in the evening.
