Weather: towards a mid-August with thunderstorms and cool weather

Ferragosto is just a few days away and the weather is about to change drastically. After an early August marked by sunshine, sultriness and above-average temperatures almost everywhere, a small respite has already been registered for a few days in some regions of the Centre-North, with some thunderstorms and a return to normal heat . The weekend is expected again to be full of sun and heat, but this time it won't last: the African anticyclone which has dominated the entire peninsula almost uninterruptedly since the end of July is in fact running out of time. according to meteorologists, around Monday 13 August the high pressure will show clear signs of loss, due to an Atlantic perturbation, coming from Iceland and ready to spoil the weather on our country precisely between 14 and 15 August, the highlight of the summer holidays for many Italians.

The thermal shock due to the clash between the fresh Icelandic air and the pre-existing heat could give rise to even violent phenomena, such as hailstorms, storms and local whirlwinds or sea storms. The major islands would seem to be slightly less affected by this stormy passage, while the central Adriatic sectors and the southern regions will be more at risk, even if everywhere there will be a good mixing of air and cooler winds will blow. The heat will therefore be swept away and as regards the temperatures, the thermal values will drop until reaching thethe average for the period or slightly below, especially in the Center and in the South, while they will suffer a significant drop in the North and in any case it will be cool in the presence of precipitation.

What will happen after mid-August is instead difficult and premature to predict: some projections indicate that this perturbation it could roughly mark the end of summer, as it could be followed by aftermaths that would prevent the return of the great heat. Instead, it is more probable that it will be the classic "midsummer" storm, which will give a break for a few days before the return of the heat, at least until the beginning of September.
