Weather: snow in Milan, schools closed in Rome and Naples

Snow in Milan and heavy thunderstorms in Rome and Naples, where mayors Virginia Raggi and Luigi De Magistris ordered the closure of schools, parks and cemeteries on Friday 13 December. The weekend which opens today promises to say the least critical from the point of view of weather.

A Roma, the Capitoline administration explained that "regional forecasts indicate rain with thunderstorms, the presence of strong stormy winds with gusts of storm and heavy seas along the coasts".

A Milano interventions are being prepared for frost and falling snow: Atm and Amsa are ready to intervene also with salt spreaders to prevent traffic problems. The Municipality has invited citizens to choose public transport for travel. Condominium administrators and shopkeepers whose business overlooks the street have been asked to spread salt on the sidewalks.

As for Campania, the Civil Protection has issued a yellow weather alert with hydrogeological criticality from thunderstorms throughout the region until 9 on Saturday. The administration of Napoli calls for maximum caution, "limiting travel to those strictly necessary".

Yellow alert as in Naples also a Florence, where it will be possible to see snow like in Naples, since the flakes are expected even at low altitudes. Throughout Tuscany there is also the risk of strong winds.

The Civil Protection has also issued an alert for Sardinia, where the mistral winds and storm surges will continue to rage until the evening of Saturday 14 December.

In general, the weather forecast for the weekend predicts a sort of "Santa Lucia storm", which will cross Italy from north to south.
