After the abrupt halt of the almost spring anticyclone, Italy is once again savoring the rigors of the general winter. In fact, at least until January 20, the Morgana cyclone arriving from Northern Europe will bring frost and snow to the plains throughout the peninsula, returning within the next weekend also to Rome where last year it created damage and endless controversy.
Cyclone Morgana will be reinvigorated 3 times during the week by Arctic-Siberian impulses and will bring rain, storms and snow: the most intense impulse, with flakes even at low altitudes, will be between Thursday and Friday. For now, the Civil Protection, especially in the Veneto region, has only declared a "state of attention", but it is not excluded that further developments will lead to a state of alarm.
The arrival of the polar cold with temperature changes of up to ten degrees and extensive frosts at low altitudes meanwhile put crops at serious risk. The alarm was sounded by Coldiretti which focuses its lens on the effects caused by the wave of bad weather on the whole peninsula, with which ends an autumn that ranks third among the warmest for over two centuries according to Isac surveys Cnr.
With the arrival of frosts, therefore, a year closes with a climatic trend particularly marked by extreme events that have caused damage to agriculture in excess of 3 billion euros with snow and ice that blocked Italy during the winter, heat and summer droughts that burned the crops, from autumn storms which - concludes Coldiretti - caused floods and landslides.
