Weather, still freezing: more snow arriving in the Centre-North

Italy will enter the month of March with mid-winter temperatures and snow almost everywhere, even at low altitudes – The situation gradually improves starting from Friday, but in the North it will be very cold even at the weekend.

Weather, still freezing: more snow arriving in the Centre-North

Spring, unlike the famous song by Loretta Goggi, is in no hurry to arrive. Thursday we enter the month of March, which meteorologically (but not astronomically) speaking is already technically spring, and yet Italy is still surrounded by mid-winter temperatures, well below the average for the period, and will remain so for a handful of days.

Indeed, after the first flurry at the beginning of the week, more heavy snowfalls are expected almost everywhere: it is always he, Burian, the icy wind coming from Siberia, who is frightening. In the North in particular the sky will be very cloudy or overcast with weak but widespread snowfall at flat altitudes, more intense in lower Piedmont, Liguria, central-southern Emilia Romagna. It should also snow in the big cities: in Milan it is already expected during the night, then it will also be the turn of Bologna and in general the phenomena will intensify in the afternoon, also involving Veneto and the Romagna side.

Precipitation is also forecast in the Center, which in some areas and even at low altitudes could be snow. Rome is therefore ready to do an encore, even if in Lazio it should mostly be rain, with possible clearing up already in the afternoon. The Adriatic side is decidedly more at risk, especially Marche and Abruzzo. Bad weather also in the South: many compact clouds almost everywhere with light snowfalls scattered at low altitudes in Molise, Campania, central-northern Puglia and Basilicata, and light showers or thunderstorms on the Ionian slopes of Sicily and Calabria. Much better situation on the Tyrrhenian side and on the islands: there will even be sunshine and almost spring-like temperatures in cities like Naples, Palermo and Cagliari.

On the rest of the peninsula, however, needless to say, the temperatures will still be polar: below zero both at night and during the day, or just above. On Friday the intense cold will resist only in the North, where it will continue to snow while elsewhere the snow will become rain or even, in the South, it will give way to the sun. Temperatures gradually rising, but until the weekend it will continue to be very cold in the North.
