Mes, high voltage government: Di Maio wants the postponement

The reform of the State-saving Fund is storming in the Government over the Mes. The inter-ministerial summit convened by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, who will speak in Parliament today, has tried to put the pieces back together but the operation has not yet succeeded and the Government risks falling apart or suffering isolation in Europe and the rejection of the markets.

Disputed in the party and declining electoral consensus, the leader of the grillini Luigi Di Maio tries to recover a role by betting everything on the postponement of the Mes on which an Ecofin will be held this week in which the Minister of Economy will have to represent Italy's position , which is awaited by the partners. Di Maio's line is uncompromising: postponement of the signing of the reform of the Mes as it is today. But this position, which risks isolating Italy in Europe and provoking the reaction of the financial markets, is harshly opposed by the Minister of Economy, Roberto Gualtieri and by the Democratic Party, who for now also have the support of Prime Minister Conte who promises to deny all Salvini's lies about the Mes in Parliament.

"The Mes - says Di Maio - needs many improvements, we cannot think of signing in the dark the reform of a treaty like the Mes which is only a part: when we have read everything, we will check if the package is worth it".

The reply from the Democratic Party was dry, with the head of government delegation Dario Franceschini and the group leader in the Chamber, Graziano Delrio, sounding the alarm: “On the Mes in these hours we are at stake for the credibility of the country, the trend of the spread and the markets. You can't play with fire. From now until Monday we will see if the intentions will also be followed by the behaviors ”.

The secretary of the party, Nicola Zingaretti, increases the dose: "That of Di Maio is a meaningless challenge to the EU".

But Di Maio raises the barricades and Conte is between two fires in view not only of today's parliamentary debate but above all of the EU Council of 12 and 13 December. Gongola Salvini who tries to insinuate himself into the divisions of the Government and who, not by chance, has returned to express his appreciation for Di Maio. He will have the first round tonight at Palazzo Chigi.
