Merkel, towards a thump in Berlin exit poll

The populist right-wing Afd advances but less than expected. In first place the SPD of the outgoing mayor, the CDU drops to 18% from 23% and risks being left out of the city government

Merkel, towards a thump in Berlin exit poll

It finished at 18pm voting in the city-land of Berlin: according to the first Infratest Dimap projections for the Ard TV network, the SPD of the outgoing mayor Michael Mueller is at 23%, the Cdu of Angela Merkel, in sharp decline, at 18%, the Greens at 16,5%, the Linke at 16,5%, Pirates 2%, FDP 6,5%. The Afd (Alternative fur Deutschland), the new right-wing populist party, holds 11,5%.

Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic party, while remaining in second place, recorded the worst result in its history in Berlin (5 percentage points less than in 2011). Alternative fur Deutschland, which will enter the parliament of the city-land for the first time, has established itself with a double-digit percentage, which however is lower than that predicted by many polls on the eve, even 15%. Both the Greens and the Linke are confirmed, which will probably become the allies of the SPD for the formation of the future government of the capital, from which the CDU will emerge. Cls/Int2
