Merkel, eurobond plan "inadequate"

"Inadequate". A clear and peremptory adjective to dismiss the EU Commission's proposals on Eurobonds, which, moreover, have not yet been officially presented by President Barroso. The assessment comes from Angela Merkel, who spoke today before the Budestag, the German chamber of deputies.

The chancellor reiterated the proposed changes to the EU treaty to regain the confidence of the markets, but ruled out intervening on the ECB's mandate, recalling how the institution is independent in all its decisions.

Speaking of Greece, Merkel recalled that it is an "exceptional situation" and still "unclear. To date, the requisites for disbursing the new tranche of aid are lacking” added the German prime minister, urging the EBA authorities to provide precise data on the recapitalization of Greek banks.
