Merkel: "There are no conditions for negotiating, but it depends on Athens"

According to the chancellor, at the moment there are no conditions to start negotiations on a new aid programme, but everything will depend on the new proposals that Athens will put forward during the new meeting of the Eurogroup - Renzi: "Tomorrow we need to find a solution" - Meanwhile, Putin asks to speak with Tsipras.

The government of the Germany respects the vote expressed by the Greeks in the referendum on the European aid plan and the door to negotiations remains open. The Chancellor's spokesman said today Angela Merkel, Steffen Seibert, specifying however that at present there are no conditions to start negotiations on a new aid programme. 

According to Seibert, everything will depend on the new proposals that Athens puts forward tomorrow, during the new meeting of the Eurogroup (convened for 13). The spokesman also stressed that Greece is a member of the euro, but that it is now up to his government to ensure that it remains so.

“Tomorrow's meetings will have to indicate a definitive way to resolve this emergency – writes the prime minister Matteo Renzi on Facebook -. There are two building sites to tackle quickly in the European capitals and in Brussels. The first concerns Greece, a country which is in a very difficult economic and social condition. The second – even more fascinating and complex, but no longer postponable – is the building site of Europe”.

Meanwhile, the Russian president Vladimir Putin he asked to speak to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. This was reported by a government source in Athens, quoted by the newspaper eKathimerini, according to whom the talks will take place during a break in the summit underway in Athens between Tsipras and the leaders of the Greek political parties.
