Merkel: "No deal in sight with Greece" but "if the euro fails, Europe fails too"

No agreement is expected in the short term between Europe and Greece: neither at tonight's EU summit nor in Monday's bilateral meeting between Angela Merkel and the head of government in Athens, Alexis Tsipras. The German Chancellor said this to the Bundestag this morning.

Merkel also said that Europe will be judged by how it manages the Greek affair, which in recent days has seemed to become entangled and push Brussels and Athens even further apart.

In a more prospective discourse but not disconnected from current events and in particular from the thorny Greek case, Merkel also argued that "if the euro fails, Europe fails too". A few words to every connoisseur.
