Merkel: 'The markets are against the people'

Merkel: 'The markets are against the people'

The markets "are not at the service of the people" because in the last five years they have allowed a few people to get rich at the expense of the majority. This is why countries like Greece "deserve our solidarity". This is the unusual message launched by the German chancellor Angela Merkel during a meeting organized in Abensberg by the Bavarian CSU, the Christian-social party that supports the CDU government. The number one in Berlin has asked allied politicians to urge voters to cut the debt, to avoid ending up in the sights of investors.

Merkel added that markets must not be allowed to destroy the fruits of people's labour and governments must not depend on the markets because of their excessive debt: "The real question regarding democracy is this - the chancellor underlined again - we can win the elections in Germany and in Europe when we jointly establish that we have solid finances and when we do not spend more than what we collect?” . A decisive question above all for Merkel, who will have to face new political elections next year.

That the electoral campaign has already begun can be understood from the last thrust of the chancellor against the countries affected by the debt crisis. To please the fundamentalists of rigor, Merkel reiterated that "it is necessary to put an end to the debt union and that is why we insist that the States carry out reforms, even if at times we are severe". The rest of the world "doesn't sleep and we cannot get into debt to the point of ending up at the mercy of the markets".
