Merkel freezes Tsipras: "No negotiations before the referendum"

"No negotiations on new aid before the referendum in Greece". The German chancellor reiterated this today Angela Merkel in response to the opening arrived by the Greek premier Alexis Tsipras, who sent a letter to Brussels in which he affirms that Athens is ready to accept the conditions posed by the creditors at the end of last week, but with some corrections.

Greece “has not fully complied with its obligations – continued Merkel -, even if the negotiations remain open. Now we are awaiting the referendum. Before the referendum, no discussion on new aid can take place. But the door to negotiation has always been open. And it stays open."

According to the chancellor, the European Union is “a community of rights and responsibilities. Everyone must contribute to the compromise: Greece, Germany, France. Everyone. A compromise can be reached if the advantages and disadvantages are outweighed. A compromise at any cost would only be a result for the result”.

In any case, “the future of Europe is not at stake – concluded Merkel before the Bundestag -. Yes, these are turbulent days. And the stakes are indeed high. The world is watching us, but Europe's future is not at stake: it would be if we forget who we are. A community based on rules and responsibilities”.
