Merkel shares Schaeuble's former armchair

More difficult than expected in Germany the negotiations for the formation of the new Merkel government due to the divisions between Greens and Liberals especially on immigration and climate think about unpacking the Ministry of Finance

In the end, the German Ministry of Finance, where until a few months ago reigned the very tough Wolfang Schauble, now president of the Bundestag to favor the formation of the new Merkel government, could be divided in two. This is Chancellor Angela Merkel's idea to get around the vetoes and countervetoes between the Greens and Liberals, more divided than ever even on immigration policies and climate protection.

As we know, the Liberals, who are pursuing an even tougher pro-austerity line than Schauble's, have long claimed the seat of the former finance minister but the Greens vetoed it: "We will not allow a liberal to become a minister of Finance". Merkel then thought of dividing the coveted ministry into two, Finance on one side and Economy on the other (the latter without competences in the field of European policies) and of offering only the second to the Liberals of the FDP.

However, that of armchairs is not the only obstacle to reaching an agreement for the birth of the new Merkel government. Divisions emerge on many other issues, even if the Chancellor is confident. But before the white smoke it will take at least a couple of weeks or three.
