German Chancellor Angela Merkel invited the president of the European Commission, Josè Manuel, to a meeting to be held in Berlin Barroso, and the president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.

The meeting, in view of the next European Council on 30 January, is scheduled for 23 January. This was announced by Barroso's spokesperson. The central themes will most likely be measures to stimulate growth and strengthen the internal market and the consolidation of the tax and banking system. It is also possible that issues such as rating agencies and possible economic aid to Hungary will be dealt with.
