Meridiana-Qatar, 900 redundancies confirmed

The Meridiana group confirmed the 901 redundancies anticipated last February in view of the partnership agreement with Qatar Airways. The numbers were reported during the meeting held today at the Ministry of Economic Development.

Based on what was declared by the unions present at the meeting, the Sardinian company intends to make 144 redundancies among pilots, 591 among flight attendants, 112 among Meridiana Fly ground personnel and 54 among Maintenance ground personnel. A new meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, while the last date to find an agreement remains set for March 23rd.

“Our position – said Ivan Viglietti of Uil Trasporti at the end of the meeting – is that nobody should be left without prospects. The goal is to reduce the number of redundancies to zero with all possible tools”. Soon - Viglietti added - "we will meet again and this time with the presence of the government".

Of the same opinion was the national secretary of Filt CGIL, Nino Cortorillo, who declared on the sidelines of the meeting: “The negotiations must continue with all the elements of the possible industrial plan of Qatar Airways, useful for drastically reducing the current level of redundancies'. This was declared by the national secretary of the Filt CGIL Nino Cortorillo after the meeting with Meridiana at the Ministry of Economic Development.
Cortorillo also highlighted that “the issue of the impact of redundancies on the entire Meridiana group including Air Italy remains unresolved. It is necessary that the confrontation continue within the government but in the direct presence of the Mise representatives”.
