Driving sales on the Chinese market are the new C-Class and S-Class models, while the Smart is losing appeal.

In 2014 Mercedes recorded a surge in sales (+13% year on year) and for the first time the result obtained in China was better than that achieved in Germany. Purchases in the country of the Dragon leap by as much as 29,1%, to 281.588 cars, compared to those in Germany, which stood at 261.050 units (+2,3%). The group closed the year with 1,65 million new cars on the road and positive results on all markets: +9,4% in Europe, to 722.732 vehicles, +5,8% in North America, to 373.291 units, and + 25,7% in Asia-Pacific, to 491.321 automobiles.

“The result is linked in particular to the new C-Class and the S-Class – comments the company's CEO, Dieter Zetsche -. We have managed to grow in all markets and for 2015 we will continue the product offensive in the SUV segment, which will provide further impetus to sales together with the full availability of the new C-Class, compact and Smart models”.

Even the Mercedes-Benz Cars group, which also owns the subsidiary Smart brand, puts a positive mark on the results at the end of 2014. In fact, annual sales grew by 11,4%, to almost 1,74 million units, while in December the increase was 17,2%, to 173.513 cars.

The negative note are the results of the Smart brand, which during the year sold almost 11% less than in 2013, closing at 89.844 cars, but if you look at the results for December 2014 it returns to positive figures with a +17,5% to 10.342 Smarts sold.
