Mercatone Uno, Minister Guidi signs commissioner

The Mercatone Uno Group has been admitted to the extraordinary administration procedure. the Ministry of Development communicates it, specifying that the minister Federica Guidi has appointed the three extraordinary commissioners: Vincenzo Tassinari, Ermanno Sgaravato and Stefano Coen.

Thus ends the thirty-year history of the Italian retail chain, which employs around 4 people in Italy and would have turned 30 next May. Founded in May 1985, the first historic store of the is located in San Giorgio di Piano in Bologna, but at least ninety were born in the 80s.

In January, the Imola-based company had presented it to the Court of Bologna the admission of composition with creditors after the new CEO Bernasconi had made a last and unsuccessful rescue attempt. Nothing to do, the crisis and careless management, perhaps even the competition from the largest hypermarkets and above all from IKEA, gave the Mercatone Uno chain the coup de grace.

A semblance of the good old days, when the Mercatone was teeming with people on Sundays, was seen before Easter, when a total sale was started in various outlets and customers literally raided. Today, only the empty shelves remain, testifying to a history of decline and mismanagement.
