Car market: Volvo doubles sales target after first half year

Following the favorable performance of the first half, which marked a return to profits compared to the losses of a year ago, Volvo Car increases its 2014 sales target. In an interview with 'The Wall Street Journal' the CEO of the Swedish company (which belongs to the Chinese group Geely), Hakan Samuelsson, has forecast sales to rise by 10% this year to 470 units, compared to initial estimates of an increase of 5%.

“It would be a new sales record for Volvo Car,” said Samuelsson, who explained the favorable expectations with the Scandinavian manufacturer's good performance in Western Europe, where its sales rose by 8,6% in the first half, and in China (+34%), while in the USA it fell by about 10%. A trend that the Swedish company hopes to reverse with the second generation of the XC90 SUV, which it will launch next week in Stockholm.
