Memorize numbers many like it and many fear it. Their characteristic that sometimes makes them unwelcome is that they are abstract. The brain remembers well concrete information and struggle with abstract ones, like numbers. The brain remembers the word 'stone' better than the word 'hard'. But if we associate numbers with something concrete, then it becomes easier to remember them. For example, if we associate the number 25 with Christmas or something else we know well, then we will remember it better.
We are at episode number 43 of the column “Mental gymnastics" for a "Winning Brain” the result of the collaboration of FIRST online Professor Giuseppe Alfredo Iannoccari, neuropsychologist, professor at the State University of Milan and president of Assomensana, the association for the development and enhancement of mental activities. Every Sunday a mental gymnastics exercise is proposed on FIRSTonline that stimulates different mental abilities. In the banner on the right of our home page or here all the exercises already published are grouped together, which have stimulated a different ability of our brain each time.
Let's remember the basic rules
For each exercise you will be shown:
- which cognitive functions it stimulates
- what purpose does it serve in everyday life
- delivery to carry out the exercise
- how long should the execution time be?
- how to calculate the score
- the finish line for an optimal score
- how to make it more empowering
- which variations to adopt to continue doing so
Mental gymnastics exercise number 43: “The dance of numbers”
Today's exercise helps improve the learning of numbers by stimulating associations, but also the ability to organize information and creativity. The mental abilities that are developed and enhanced are: Memory, Concentration, Organization, Creativity.
Delivery: Rearrange the sequence of 10 numbers in ascending order. Then, if possible, associate them with some information known to us, and memorize them.
Example: 19 – 4 – 91 – 37 becomes 4 – 19 – 37 – 91. After putting them in order, associate them, for example: '4' as the cat's paws; '19' as the house number or one year after the age of majority and so on.
26 - 84 - 7 - 42 - 77 - 11 - 25 - 99 - 61 - 50
Execution time: 120 sec.
Score: 10 points for each number put in ascending order and memorized.
Traguardo: score 100 points in 120 seconds.
Strengthening: write and repeat a sequence of 15 numbers.
variants: Reverse the arrangement of the numbers from the largest to the smallest. Write a sequence with different numbers.
Call: Write your memorized sequence in the comments
