Less unemployment benefits, US work through the lens of subsidies

Positive first week of August for the employment sector in the USA. The data released by the Department of Labor show a drop in claims for unemployment benefits that brings them to a minimum for four months. The decrease is quantified in 7 thousand units, to the quota of 395 thousand. Therefore, the forecasts of analysts who feared a worse result, stable at 400 thousand units, were denied. The data improves the average over the last four weeks, moving the level of new applications to 405, with a decrease of 3.250 units compared to the value revised the previous week, i.e. 408.250 applications.

However, the current result is in line with a trend already seen in July. Already in the last week of the month, ending July 30, the total number of beneficiaries of ordinary benefits stood at 3.688.000, down by 60.000 units compared to 3.748.000 in the previous week (ended July 23). At that date, the Department of Labor also has data on beneficiaries of extraordinary subsidies, equal to 3 million and 160 thousand, ie 23.609 units below the previous measurement.

Therefore, considering both classes of beneficiaries, 7 million 480 thousand people receive the support allowance, for a drop of 89.945 units.
