Rock&Roll Memorabilia: Red Ronnie's collection sold for almost two million dollars

The auction ended with a total of 1.893.000 awards "Pop Culture” which saw many lots from the collection of the legendary DJ, journalist and presenter auctioned Red Ronnie

Built over the course of more than twenty years, the collection included a remarkable variety of rare music-related memorabilia. The objects, documents, clothing and musical instruments in the catalog refer to legendary artists such as the Beatles, John Lennon, the Rolling Stones, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix and therefore constitute a synthesis of the history of Rock and Roll.

Red Ronnie said: “I like to repeat that music saved me from loneliness. I never imagined that one day I would meet and talk to almost all of my heroes, nor that I would become the custodian of so many handwritten writings, drawings, objects and memorabilia. I started collecting in 1990 and, since then, I have always tried to acquire objects able to tell the stories of rock stars, such as, for example, the letter in which John Lennon mentions the breakup of the Beatles or the unpublished poem dedicated to Woodstock which Jimi Hendrix almost certainly composed during the festival in which his legendary performance definitively marked the 60s.”

Highlights from the selection of 60 lots sold include the complete autographed lyrics to the Jimi Hendrix song Night Bird Flying which appeared on the LP The Cry of Love, released posthumously in 1971, as well as a page of Jimi Hendrix's handwritten notes and titled An Unfinished Rough Sketch of Woodstock Festival.
This unfinished composition depicts Hendrix's initial impressions of Woodstock and was likely written during the historic festival in 1969. Equally rare and important is Jim Morrison's autograph set of lyrics, written for the famous Doors song LA Woman. LA Woman is part of the last, self-titled album by the Doors, released in 1971, the year of Morrison's untimely death.
